Moving to Maui #9: Is It A Poem or a Home?

Posted by Maridel Bowes on Thursday, April 29, 2010, In : Moving to Maui

The phone rang late one evening at my temporary home in Dundee where I sleep on a blow-up bed and answer to the name “Delly.” Future housemate Karren Louise’s voice sparkled over the line. She was giddy, nearly breathless with exclamation.

“I found our home!” she said. “And it’s so frickin’ amazing!” I envisioned her behind the wheel of the van, careening down the road as words flew like flapping birds straight from her heart. “It’s so luxurious … gorgeous tile work…...

Moving to Maui #8 "So Many Beds, So Little Time"

Posted by Maridel Bowes on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, In : Spiritual Path

At sixty-two, I’m finally sleeping around. Never before, in my history of moves, have I had nine addresses on the books at once. I’m house-dating. Well, the house I left behind in Roseville, California may not qualify. It’s more like the person I was in love with before the speed dating took over.

Moving to Maui #7: Mother Maui's Got Dinner Ready

Posted by Maridel Bowes on Friday, April 9, 2010, In : Moving to Maui

I can still hear my mother’s voice calling me home to dinner. “Maaar-i-del!” It was a one-word song, a beckoning, a reminder of my place in the world and at the table. Moving to Maui #6: Everything I Need Is Right Here, Right Now?

Posted by Maridel Bowes on Thursday, April 8, 2010, In : Spiritual Path

I’ve been working with the spiritual principle “everything I need is right here right now.” It’s radical and therefore easy to reject with conjectured examples of approaching tigers or retreating livelihoods. But what about applying it right here, right now standing in the middle of life’s road?

This isn’t so much about magic as it is about the magic of being open. How many times have I noticed after the fact (and with a serving of chagrin) that what I needed was within easy r...

Moving to Maui #5: I'm Back-Blogged

Posted by Maridel Bowes on Sunday, April 4, 2010, In : Moving to Maui

I've got a new entry for the Blogger's lexicon: "Back-Blogged."  Translation: Life is moving faster than the speed of one's blogging. Think of it as the opposite of blogger's block.

What's the cure for Back-Bloggedness? Why, a blogging blitz of course. Sitting down and writing three or four blogs and then sending them out every day or two until you're caught up. That's my intent--despite the fact that I'm on my pre-Maui family tour to Oregon and Idaho, a context that doesn't lend itself to re...
